Paulo Soares during the recording of the guitar parts

Rita Nunes rehearsing...

"Cine-Lisboa: concerto for Portuguese guitar and Lisbon soundscapes" was revealed last July 18th 2005. Paulo Soares plays the Portuguese guitar part.

"Cine Lisboa" is included in a DVD titled Lisboa.Reloaded. The label is Realambient from Germany. Lisboa.Reloaded was in part supported by the Fonoteca de Lisboa. The DVD was released during the 12th International Congress on Sound and Vibration that took place here in Lisbon at that time. A concert version will happen in Germany, sometime during 2007.

Dan Warburton of Wire magazine wrote about this piece:
"There's a kind of Wenders-like saudade to Carlos Alberto Augusto's "Cine Lisboa", which mixes Paulo Soares' guitar with church bells, insects, birdsong, locals playing dominoes and coffee spoons tinkling in dimly lit cafes. It's a montage of Lisbon soundmarks worthy of R Murray Schafer, whose "Coimbra Vibra!", a sonification of Portugal's venerable university city, Augusto helped organise in 2003."

Rehearsals started for the new production of the play by Prosper Mérimée titled "The Coach of the Blessed Sacrament ". The play premiers on May 25 at the CCC, Caldas da Rainha (Portugal). I wrote the music for this new production which Fernando Mora Ramos staged for the Teatro da Rainha theatre company. More information, news, pictures and sounds here.

Just premiered "The Plowman from Bohemia" the intriguing text by 15th century writer Johannes Van Saaz for which I wrote and played the music. For this particular play the setup used includes the guitarviol and basscello, controlling a Kyma/Capybara system in real time. The play will be performed again in Spring 2009. The setting was designed by Portuguese painter João Vieira. Fernado Mora Ramos is responsible for the staging. Himself and António Durães are the actors playing Plowman and Death respectively.
